These Are the Most Popular Baby Names of 2020 (So Far)

Anxious to hear about the most popular baby names of 2020? First a bit of insight. When we first entered lockdown mode due to the pandemic, many predicted that in addition to sourdough bread and bagel making, there would be some serious baby making and that we could expect a spike in births. Buuuuuut, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

New research suggests that parents with kids are too busy homeschooling, attending work related Zoom calls and cooking non-stop to add to their brood. And those without kids were putting off starting a family due to economic concerns. We also don’t completely know the effects of how the virus affects pregnancy. And then there’s the uncertainty around what the future will look like post-pandemic.

Now, December is typically the month in which the largest number of people get pregnant, which means that many expectant parents are starting to think about popular baby names in January. But BabyCenter’s top 100 names of 2020 are here a little early, because if we have learned nothing, it’s that this year is full of surprises!

In any case, parents who welcomed new babies in this historic (that’s one way of describing it) year have been sharing their name choices online. BabyCenter recently shared the results from more than 520,000 BabyCenter parents who shared their baby’s name on the platform in 2020.
