Make DIY Moroccan-Style Lanterns From Old Mason Jars

Moroccan-style home decor is incredibly popular these days, but the downside is it can be pricey. Fortunately, a little Moroccan decor can go a long way. These DIY Moroccan lanterns are easy to make, stylish, and versatile. You can use them as centerpieces or string them up as backyard lighting. Plus, you don’t have to be an artist to make them look presentable, which is always a bonus. (See, I’m crafty but not exactly talented when it comes to drawing.) Don’t have mason jars? Plain old glass jars from pasta sauce or jam work too.

Looking to add Moroccan flair to your home? Try these easy DIY mason jar lanterns.

Supplies:

  • Clear glass jars
  • Metallic gold puff paint
  • Mod Podge
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paint brush
  • Small bowl

Step 1: In a small bowl, mix together the Mod Podge and several drops of paint. This makes the paint more translucent, but it will also lighten the color.

Step 2: Paint the colored Mod Podge along the entire inside of the jar, and set aside to dry for about one hour.

Step 3: Use gold puff paint to create patterns on the outside of the glass. Try drawing lines and patterns, or create patterns using just dots of paint. Once you’ve painted the designs, set aside to dry overnight.

Once the paint is dry, simply placing a candle inside your mason jar lantern and let the glow shine through the painted glass. Use your Moroccan lanterns for decor inside or outside. Just keep them out of the rain for best results.
