DIY Holiday Gift: Handmade Hooded Towel

Nothing is more adorable than a child warm and clean out of the tub. This is a great DIY gift for a new mom or a child you know: a homemade hooded towel.

You can make a simple version without embellishment, or you can add things like bias tape, ribbons or fabric anyway you’d like. There are so many ways to make this special. This tutorial shows you the basic process with the bias tape embellishment.

Supplies:

One full bath towel
One hand towel
Bias tape
Scissors
Sewing machine

Cut the hand towel in half. You’ll only use one of the remaining pieces for your hooded towel.

With the hand towel, fold the raw edge in half and pin them together to make the cap.

Pin the hand towel to the middle of the large towel with the folded edge facing down as pictured.

Pinch about 2 inches and fold in with pins to shorten the length of the larger towel as pictured.

Sew along the fold and along the hood where you’ve pinned.

The basic structure is now made. To add some embellishment, take the bias tape and unfold it. Pin one side on the inside of the hood.

Pin the bias tape along the whole hood as pictured.

Sew right along that line you’ve pinned.

Now you’ll fold over the remaining edge of the bias tape and zig zag on the other side.

You’ll add bias tape in the same way to both of the sides of the large towel.
