Mom Gives Birth In Miami International Airport

You’ve heard of Florida Man, but say hello to Florida Baby. The Miami International Airport got a special delivery on Father’s Day when an expectant mom who arrived on a flight from Chicago gave birth to a baby girl inside of her terminal’s restroom (via the Miami Herald). The baby girl’s name? Mia. Talk about a name with a cool story.

Mia, who was born around 10:30 in the morning, was announced to the world by the Miami International Airport’s official Twitter account. “The stork was cleared for arrival today for a special delivery. Meet Mia who was born at the airport this afternoon with help from our Terminal Team,  [Miami-Dade Fire Department], and [Miami-Dade Police Department],” they tweeted, accompanied by photos of the mother and newborn.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava also shared the news, tweeting: “Welcome to the world, baby Mia! Grateful that mom and her new baby are doing well.” She went on to thank the airport’s team and the county’s first responder’s for helping deliver the “special arrival.”

“We were honored to help the mom have a safe delivery at MIA and we are proud to hear that the baby has been named Mia because of her successful ‘arrival’ at our airport,” airport spokesman Greg Chin said, who noted the mother had just arrived before going into labor.

Best wishes to Mom and baby Mia, and kudos to Miami International Airport staff and first responders for their quick action to ensure Mia’s safe delivery. Welcome to the world, baby Mia! Do you know a mother who had a similar experience? Let us know in the comments!
