SNL’s Macy’s Ad Parody Is So Real (& Hilarious) It Hurts

Parents everywhere are crying with laughter over the parody Macy’s ad on a recent episode of SNL that features “wrestling your wiggly little monster into thick winter clothes.” The ad shows the unspoken pain of what really happens when we all buy those holiday outfits for our kids, from itchy sweaters to boots that are impossible to get on all the way to strained marriages and f-bomb dropping dads. The SNL “Children’s Clothing Ad” is the funniest thing on the internet this week.

The ad follows parents as they try to get kids dressed in the clothing on sale. “We’re taking 25% off boys merino wool sweaters that won’t fit over his head.” Cue the dad freaking out and yelling, “if you stop squirming it would be on already!” The parents are portrayed to look like the kind who have their proverbial sh*t together during this time of year so when we see them falling apart over too many snaps and itchy wool it feels cathartic to laugh. If it’s happening at Susan’s house then it’s ok to take a deep breath and laugh about it happening at your house too, which is the magic of this parody ad.

The parody ad ends with some salt in the holiday parenting wounds with the words, “We know it’s awful for them and for you, but one day they’ll be too old to wear cute little clothes like this and you’ll miss it. So suck it up and get down to Macy’s. The clothes they’ll hate create the memories you’ll love.” Imagine if ads were this spot on about real life.

Now, if SNL could please run a similar ad that features the hell that is shopping for my husband. I’m thinking of lots of comedic interactions with crappy tee shirts, shaving kits, and tools that my husband doesn’t need or use.
