Sarah Jessica Parker originally hails from Nelsonville, Ohio. She is one of eight children and has talked very openly about her family’s struggle to make ends meet when she was younger. Despite their poverty, her mother enrolled the children in ballet and theater classes.
After Sarah Jessica and her brother Timothy landed roles in Broadway plays, their family relocated to New York. She continued to land stage and television roles, including her first foray into films with the hit movie “Footloose” in 1984.
In 1991 she releases the hit movie “Honeymoon in Vegas” co-starring Nicolas Cage. This is also the same year that she meets future husband Matthew Broderick. She said of him: “He’s probably the funniest fellow I’ve met in my entire life. I’m mad for him, totally.”
In 1996, Sarah accepted the role that would catapult her to world-wide fame. Producer Darren Star hand-picked her for the part of Carrie Bradshaw in the smash hit HBO series “Sex and the City”. He explained why he wanted only her for the part: “Sarah Jessica has the biting wit I wanted the character to have, but she is also extremely sympathetic.” She won several awards during the show’s six season run.
1997 Sarah and Matthew tie the knot. She later shared her regret over the decision to wear a black dress: “I wore black on my wedding day, and I really regret that. I was too embarrassed to get married in white, and both Matthew and I were reluctant to have people pay so much attention to us. Which is ridiculous, because that’s when you can relish the attention, when it’s natural.”
In October of 2002, she gave birth to their first son James Wilkie, named after Matthew’s father and their favorite writer, Wilkie Collins.
After Sex and the City ended in 2004, Sarah continued to star in films, including two ‘Sex and the City” films. She also branched out with her own clothing line, Bitten, and a fragrance collection.
Sarah Jessica and Matthew expanded their family in 2009: they welcomed twin daughters Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell , who were born via surrogate on June 22.
