Sarah Jessica Parker Doesn’t Want Special Treatment

Sarah Jessica Parker opens up in the September issue of Marie Claire about being not letting her fame go to her head – and slams Page Six for their false story about jury duty.

The former ‘Sex & the City’ star sat down and chatted candidly about staying grounded despite being famous. She was the subject of a Page Six story that claimed she grumbled about jury duty and says it was completely untrue:  “For Page Six to be so cavalier – I was so outraged by the character assassination! I have served so many times, I was asked to come speak at Jury Appreciation Day!  I expect I should be more calloused by now, but I am so sensitive about not ever living up to anybody’s worst idea about an actor who is well-known.”

Sarah Jessica says that she doesn’t expect any special treatment just because she’s an actress:  “I never wanted to be a celebrity; I never wanted to be famous. And in my daily life, I work really hard not to trade on it in any way. I am so desperately worried about anybody saying, ‘She cut in line’, or ‘She took our table’, or ‘She got out of jury duty’, or ‘She doesn’t do her own grocery shopping’. The things that bother me are counter to who I am and the way I live. It’s not like it’s hard to be decent and respectful and well-behaved. I do wait in line, and I do take the subway, and I do do my own grocery shopping, and I do take the kids to school.”

Despite the negativity that she has to deal with in the media, she refuses to let that interfere with doing what she loves, as long as it doesn’t negatively affect her family: “I love, love, love being an actor. It’s still the hardest and scariest thing I do, outside of parenting. But I’ve always been someone who likes a busy day. I love the opportunities, and if I can manage my time and the children are okay and we’re [husband Matthew Broderick] okay, it’s hard to say no…”
