With 2023 nearing its end, it is time to look forward to the upcoming year, which comes with the promise of some highly anticipated releases. From the return of Kung Fu Panda to the much-loved animated feline Garfield getting a movie of his own, there is a lot to look forward to in 2024. Here is a list of animated movies that are scheduled for release in 2024, which you can enjoy with your little ones.
1. Kung Fu Panda 4
Po will be back again, most likely on March 8, 2024, to face his greatest challenge in the big city. In the 4th installment of the franchise, Po is gearing up to become the spiritual leader of the Valley of Peace. However, he needs to find someone to take his place as Dragon Warrior. In the upcoming movie, he will not only train a new kung fu practitioner for the Dragon Warrior spot, but will also encounter a dangerous villain called Chameleon, who conjures up villains from the past.
2. The Garfield Movie
The beloved, witty cat will once again rule the screens on May 24, 2024. The animated movie is based on the popular comic strip by Jim Davis, which follows the sarcastic, lasagna-loving, Monday-hating and shower-loathing cat, Garfield. In the upcoming feature film, viewers will finally get to see how Garfield “adopted Jon.”
4. Despicable Me 4
Gru will once again flaunt his powers along with his family and friends in Despicable Me 4. The 4th installment of the Despicable Me franchise will be in the continuation of the previous story line. Gru and Lucy are now married; they are now one big, happy family who are fighting together in the Anti-Villain League. The movie is slated to release on July 3, 2024.
5. Mufasa: The Lion King
If you and your little one loved The Lion King, you will surely love Mufasa: The Lion King, which is all set to release on December 20, 2024. Disney’s new movie will serve as a prequel to director Jon Favreau’s 2019 live-action remake. The new story will explore Mufasa’s backstory and how he rose to be the king of Pride Rock.
3. Inside Out 2
The much-awaited animated movie, Inside Out 2, is set to release in theaters in 2024. Almost nine years after the first film, Inside Out 2 is set to be released on June 14, 2024, picking up with protagonist Riley, who is now a teenager encountering new, complicated feelings including anxiety.
Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith and Lewis Black are back again as Joy, Sadness and Anger. While Tony Hale and Liza Lapira have replaced Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling as Fear and Disgust. Hawke has joined the cast as the new emotion Anxiety, who seems just as fascinating as the rest of the animated representations of Riley’s emotions.
6. Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Another animated movie to be released on December 20, 2024, is Sonic the Hedgehog 3. This upcoming action-adventure, comedy film is based on the video game series published by Sega, the sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and a follow-up to Knuckles.
7. Paddington in Peru
Paddington in Peru will appear on screens on November 8, 2024. In the animated adventure-comedy film, Paddington returns to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, residing at the Home for Retired Bears. However, soon a thrilling adventure sends them on an unexpected journey through the Amazon rainforest and up the Peruvian mountains.
