5 Tricks For Healthy, Glowing Winter Skin

Drink lots of water. Yes, you’ve heard this many times over and there’s a reason for it.  Hydrating from the inside out is essential to keeping your skin and scalp in optimum health. I love stashing a large liter of Figi Water by my bed, by the kids play area and by my computer. This way I’m never without water or the excuse not to hydrate throughout the day. If you grow tired of just plain water, try creating your own water cocktail by mixing your favorite H20 with cucumber, lemon or mint. I personally love the refreshing blend of mixing cucumber and mint together—not to mention, this particular blend creates the most relaxing aroma.  

Exfoliate once a week. Remove dead skin by using a gentle exfoliator that’s free from abrasive particles. Look for a product that’s comprised of sugars and ultra-fine oils, or create your own. Place a teaspoon of cleansing cream onto your palm. Drizzle two teaspoons of fine-grained sugar over the cleansing cream. Mix the cleansing cream and sugar together with your palms, creating a paste. Apply the mixture in a circular motion, paying close attention to the sides of your nose, fine lines and any dry patches. Rinse off using warm water and a soft face cloth. 

Try “facial massage.” Lisa Eldridge, my favorite makeup artist of all time, has an amazing video tutorial that I’ve recently grown obsessed with. Dissect it and see what kind of facial massage is best for you. Use a cleansing cream or chamomile essential oil for aromatherapy purposes and to lubricate the skin during your personal massage. Try implementing a combination of lymphatic drainage, acupuncture, and stimulating massage movements to create your own customized weekly routine. 

Wear sunscreen every day. In addition to using a great moisturizer, protecting your skin with sunscreen is an essential part of maintaining beautiful skin. One can often forget to wear sunscreen in the winter, but it is important to protect your face all year round. Use a minimum of SPF 30 everyday to combat wrinkles and keep skin supple. 

Use a humidifier. Your home can get stuffy and dry in the winter months with closed windows and heating units. Put moisture back into the air with an at-home humidifier. This is especially important in the bedroom to promote fresh air and circulation air while you sleep.  This simple technique will heavily cut down on skin dryness.
