Britney Jean Spears was born in Mississippi and raised in Kentwood, Louisiana by her parents Lynne and Jamie Spears. Britney is the middle daughter of three children; an older brother Bryan and younger sister Jamie-Lynn. She began dance lessons at age 3 and was singing from a very young age. She first auditioned for the “New Mickey Mouse Club” at age 8, but was turned down because they required cast members to be at least 10. Britney, her mom and sister instead moved to New York City for a few years where she found work in commercials and even as a contestant on “Star Search”. When Britney turned 10 she again auditioned for the Mickey Mouse Club and landed the job alongside other budding mega-stars Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling, and Christina Aguilera.
When the show ended just two years later, she returned home to Kentwood and tried to live a “typical teenager” life for a few years. Britney grew restless and wound up recording a demo in early 1997. Jive Records snapped her up and sent her out on a mall tour immediately after finishing work on her debut album. When her “Baby One More Time” album hit the charts in 1999, it went double platinum in the first month and it sold over ten million copies in the first year.
Britney went on to record several albums and became one of the most famous and successful pop singers of all time. She even dabbled in the movies when she starred in the film “Crossroads”.
She started dating her backup dancer, Kevin Federline, in May 2004 and became engaged to him after just three months of dating. The two were married on September 18 2004, but they weren’t legally married until October 6th due to working out the prenuptial agreement.
Sean Preston was born on September 14, 2005 and the following year she welcomed her second son, Jayden James, on September 12, 2006. Britney filed for divorce from Kevin just one month later. They first shared custody of their boys, but after some personal troubles in Britney’s life, Kevin was granted physical custody while she sorted things out. She received treatment and was placed under the conservatorship of her father in order to help her stay on track. Britney now shares visitation rights of her boys with Kevin.
In May 2010 her reps confirmed that she was dating her agent Jason Trawick. They mutually decided to end their professional relationship so it wouldn’t be a conflict of interest with their personal one.
She is currently working on her next album, which is rumored to be due out in 2011. The hit show “Glee” paid homage to Britney’s music in a recent episode.
Britney supports many charities and even started her own, the Britney Spears Charitable Foundation.
