DIY Holiday Gift: Handmade Embroidered Baby Bib

Have a sweet newborn on your list to give to this holiday season? We’ve got the perfect handmade gift tutorial: a special personalized bib.

Handmade with embellished trim and embroidered initials in the corner. Nothing’s sweeter, especially when it’s handmade by you! You’ll need to know simple sewing techniques including basting, and simple embroidery.

Supplies:

Scrap wrapping paper for pattern making
Light cotton fabric
Embellished trim (mine was actually elastic)
Scissors
Pinking Shears
Embroidery needle and thread
Pins
Sewing Machine

Fold your wrapping paper in half (I always use wrapping paper to make patterns). Trace one side of a bib shape against the fold, using pencil first and then a more permanent pen. Cut out the pattern.

Pin pattern onto fabric and cut out.

Using pinking shears, trim around the whole bib. This will prevent fraying and replace the need for a hem.

Carefully pin your embellished trim along the outside of the bib. It would help to do a basting stitch too if you’re familiar with that.

Topstich carefully around the bib, close to the edge.

Now for the neck. I basted the inside since it’s pretty curvy. And I’m so glad I did. It was much easier to sew after basting!

The basic bib is DONE! Want to embroider initials? Keep reading..

I first carefully drew the initials with a pencil

Then using embroidery thread and an embroidery needle I make small stitches like this.

A cute personalized gift for a new baby!
