The Easiest Ways to Remove Coffee Stains

Must. Have. Coffee. It’s a common morning glitch we all know too well. You take a sip of your coffee in your morning fog and miss your mouth because you are looking for a lost shoe or you step on a LEGO.  And while you aren’t wearing anything fancy, you don’t want to a huge coffee stain on your top or pants. Fortunately, there are many hacks and household ingredients to remove evidence of your rough morning (until you do it again tomorrow). Here are some easy ways to remove coffee stains:

Vinegar:

Combine 1 cup white vinegar and 1 cup water in a spray bottle. Next, spray the stain, then blot with a damp cloth. Then, dab with diluted ammonia (1 tablespoon clear ammonia in 1 cup water). Finally, blot the spot with a clean, damp cloth, followed by a dry cloth.

OR

Mix the following in a bucket or other large container:

  • 1 quart lukewarm water
  • 1/2 teaspoon liquid dishwashing detergent
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar

Soak clothing in the solution for 15 minutes, then rinse and hang to dry.

Club Soda:

Blot the stain first to remove any excess. Then spritz it with club soda, making sure to really soak the stained area. Work the club soda into the stain with your finger or a soft cloth or scrub brush. Allow it to sit on the stain for 5-10 minutes, then rinse in cool water. Repeat as needed until the stain dissipates.

Egg Yolk:

As weird as it may sound, you can use an egg yolk to remove a pesky coffee stain out of your clothing. Start by beating the egg yolk. Use a cloth towel or sponge and rub the egg yolk into the stain for a minute. Wash the area with water and watch for the stain to disappear.
