Cinnamon Fried Bananas

Cinnamon Fried Bananas

Super sweet bananas! No sugar added!  "Caramelizing foods" brings all of their natural sugars to the surface and forms a delicious, sweet crust.

After a trip to the zoo the other day, my six-year old asked me to make something for his imaginary monkey to eat.  This is what we came up with for his "friend."

Fried bananas are also fantastic as a side dish with lunch or dinner, in cereal at breakfast, for a quick and easy snack, and of course, for dessert!  They are especially wonderful over ice-cream (add them when they're still warm, to make the ice cream slightly "melty.")

The only problem with this treat is that now, whenever I ask my four-year old if he wants a banana, he replies, "yes, but only the fried way!"

Ingredients

  • 1 medium banana
  • Olive oil to coat pan
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon

Preparation

Serves 1

Peel and slice the banana on a bias, into slices about 1/2 inch thick, and sprinkle both sides with cinnamon

Heat the oil in a medium saute pan over medium-high heat.

Add the banana slices to the pan.  (And here's an important tip:  you should hear a sizzling sound whenever you put any food in a pan to saute.  If you don't, your pan's not hot enough. Wait until the pan is very hot and listen for the sizzle!)

Saute the bananas for about 1 minute per side.
