Star-Studded NBC Tribute to Betty White Airing On Monday, January 31st

Collective hearts were broken last month when beloved actor Betty White passed on, just shy of her 100th birthday. In honor of her brilliant and vibrant life, NBC is hosting a star-studded tribute special, airing tonight, Monday, January 31st.

Everyone Jumped On Board to Honor Betty White

The guest list for this event reads like one from the Academy Awards. However, it’s not at all surprising that so many celebrities want to pay tribute to the greatness of Betty White.

According to PEOPLE, those giving tribute include President Joe Biden, Drew Barrymore, Valerie Bertinelli, Cher, Bryan Cranston, Ted Danson, Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Ana Gasteyer, Goldie Hawn, Vicki Lawrence, Jane Leeves, Jay Leno, Anthony Mackie, Wendie Malick, Joel McHale, Tracy Morgan, Jean Smart, Mary Steenburgen, and undoubtedly, a few surprises.

“Co-stars, friends, admirers and those who shared special moments with White recount their favorite memories and reveal untold stories to commemorate the life and legacy of the trailblazing television star,” reads NBC’s official press release. “The telecast will include clips and never-before-seen footage that best capture White’s irreverent tone, spirit, and impeccable comedic timing that are a hallmark of her decades-long career.”

Prior to her death, White was gearing up to turn 100. Her agent, and friend, Jeff Witjas told people that he thought “she would live forever.” Many of us did.

“I will miss her terribly and so will the animal world that she loved so much,” he continued. “I don’t think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again.”

Just before her death, PEOPLE spoke with White about the secret to her long life. She responded that she was “born a cockeyed optimist” and that it was something got from her mom.

Celebrating Betty White: America’s Golden Girl airs Monday at 10 p.m. ET on NBC, which suggests that it will be quite irreverent, just as she was. It will be available to stream, the next day, on Peacock.
