For a thoughtful holiday gift you need some really special wrapping to go with it. This is a really fun way to design and make your own colorful wrapping paper with just tissue paper and crayon shavings! It can be fun for kids to help with too and has a beautiful watercolor-like finished product.

Supplies:

crayons
kitchen peeler
iron
tissue paper
wax paper
paper towel or old cloth towel

Remove part of the wrapping from the crayons and unfold a piece of tissue paper.

Using the kitchen peeler, scrap small curls of each of the crayons onto the tissue paper. It helps if you do this directly onto the ironing board so you won't have to transfer it.

Not too much. The wax will spread out a lot when it melts

Place another piece of tissue paper on top.

Place wax paper underneath the two layers of tissue paper with the crayon shavings inside. With the iron on the lowest setting, gently press onto the tissue paper for just a second. The wax will melt immediately. Lift straight up, don't move in a circular motion the way you would normally use the iron. Straight up and down, 'dabbing' the tissue paper per say.

The wax will get on your iron. Just gently wipe it off after each 'dab' with a moist towel. Make sure the moisture from the towel steams off before dabbing again. If you wipe it throughly, the wax won't stick to the iron permanently.

The dots will kind of bleed together, kind of like watercolors.

The wax will harden almost immediately and you can wrap your gift.

Use a pretty ribbon and center the crayon design where you'd like it. Now you've made some pretty wrapping for a special holiday gift!
