How to Treat Yourself Well this Mother’s Day

Treat Yourself Well - Mother's DayYou’re a rock star when it comes to mothering the kids (and the husband!), but how good are you when it comes to mothering yourself? As a mom, nurturer has become your given middle name. You work so hard to make sure everyone else’s needs are taken care of, but are you taking time to take care of your own?

Here are 5 ways you can treat yourself well this Mother's Day:

  1. Let go of the guilt. My favorite mantra? Just because you feel guilty, doesn’t mean you are guilty. Stop beating yourself up because you forgot to put a special note in your child’s lunchbox and by golly, stop comparing your projects to those on Pinterest. Be the best you can be and do the best you can do. You’ll never feel guilty about that.
  2. Get more sleep. Go to bed before you fall asleep doing your last task of the night. The dishes can wait. Head to bed before you’re overtired. Well-rested, well-fed moms are more productive moms.
  3. Connect with friends. Whether you stay connected by phone, Facebook, or in person, be sure to make a point to reach out and respond regularly to your friends. Schedule time to get together with other women, even if it’s for a quick cup of coffee. You’ll feel more like yourself when you do.
  4. Take time for yourself. Start your day 30 minutes before everyone else so you can care for your needs first. The better you take care of yourself, the better you can take care of your family.
  5. Delegate. Consider what you do each day and consider what tasks you can delegate. Get the kids involved with household chores, ask your husband to take on specific tasks and outsource things like gardening and house cleaning.
