What do you need to know about this Recall?
These whole Athena cantaloupes were shipped between July 15th and July 27th to stores in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. They are identified by a red label bearing the name, Burch Farms. 188,902 melons ave been affected by this recall.
What are the Risks?
These melons may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which may cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, those with weakened immune systems and the elderly. Serious risks for pregnant women include miscarriages and stillbirths. Healthy individuals, however, will likely experience only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
