Weekend Movie Release Roundup: In Theaters & On DVD Fourth of July Weekend

July has arrived and with it, a slew of great summer movies! There are 3 great flicks to choose from this 4th of July weekend.

In theaters today (7/1/11)

1. Transformers 3 (PG-13)

Starring Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Tyrese, John Malkovich, Patrick Dempsey, and Josh Duhamel

“The Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the Moon, and race against the Decepticons to reach it and to learn its secrets.”

*I saw this last night in 3D.  The 3D is good, but, in my humble opinion, not as “epic” as they were touting it to be.  I would’ve been just as happy to see it in 2D.  Audiences seem to be loving it, but I’m on the fence.

2.  Monte Carlo  (PG)

Starring Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester, and Katie Cassidy

Three young women vacationing in Paris find themselves whisked away to Monte Carlo after one of the girls is mistaken for a British heiress.”

3.  Larry Crowne (PG-13)

Starring Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks

After losing his job, a middle-aged man reinvents himself by going back to college.

On DVD & BLU-RAY this week  (6/28/11)

1. Sucker Punch (PG-13)

Starring Emily Browning, Carla Gugino, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, and Jena Malone

“A young girl is institutionalized by her evil stepfather. Retreating to an alternative reality as a coping strategy, she envisions a plan which will help her escape from the institution.”

2. Beastly (PG-13)

Starring Vanessa Hudgens, Alex Pettyfer, and Mary-Kate Olsen

“A modern spin on the tale of “Beauty & the Beast”.  An arrogant teen is turned into an ugly monster in order to find the meaning of true love.”

3. Season of the Witch (PG-13)

Starring Nicolas Cage, Ron Perlman, and Claire Foy

“14th-century knights transport a suspected witch to a monastery, where monks deduce her powers could be the source of the Black Plague. “

*The only advice I can offer is run far away from this one.  I love Nicolas Cage, but this was just unforgivable!

4. Barney’s Version (R)

Starring Paul Giamatti, Scott Speedman, and Rachelle Lefevre

“A touching story of the politically incorrect, fully lived life of the impulsive, irascible and fearlessly blunt Barney Panofsky.”

Are you planning to catch a movie this weekend?  Or are you traveling with your family?
