From rusting metal construction debris to shiny aluminum soda cans to an astonishing variety of men’s and women’s footwear, the breadth and width of Golden Sands’ unpalatable new blanket encompassed an alarming selection of everyday life’s most banal debris.
Cleanup crews were out in full force following the late-October storms in a valiant attempt to clear the beach of refuse before prospective tourists change their itineraries. Where will the collected trash be dumped? What are the odds of some (or all) of re-appearing on the formerly pristine beach the next time a storm strikes?
Since the answer to the former will largely affect the chances of the latter, maybe its time local authorities stopped sweeping this problem under the carpet… sooner or later, the best-swept trash of Man will all too soon be unswept for all to see.
