Although an occasional film actress, she is most notably known for her international modeling career and was recently named by Forbes as being the highest-paid model in the world. Her modeling career began when she and two of her sisters (at the insistence of their mother) enrolled in a modeling course. The following year Gisele was discovered while on a school excursion and eating in a McDonalds in a shopping mall in Sao Paulo. Later she was selected for a national contest, Elite Look of the Year, for which she won second place.
Gisele was born July 20th, 1980 in the Brazilian town of Tres de Maio and grew up in Horizontina, Rio Grande do Sul. Both of Gisele’s parents are of German descent and she has 5 sisters, Raquel, Graziela, Gabriela, Rafaela and her fraternal twin (Patricia) who was born just five minutes after Gisele.
Her modeling accomplishments, including all her endorsements and earnings, are far too numerous to list, plus she had the rare honor of appearing on 3 consecutive covers of Vogue magazine, along with having a good run at Victoria’s Secret, until she ended her contract with them in 2007.
Giselle’s relationship scorecard has included such notables as actor Leonardo DiCaprio, and professional surfer, Kelly Slater, to name just a few, and in 2006 she began dating New England Patriot’s quarterback, Tom Brady. On February 26, 2009 Bundchen and Brady were married in a small ceremony in Santa Monica, CA and later on April 5th, 2009 they remarried again in Costa Rica in a somewhat larger ceremony with Tom’s son in attendance. On June 19th, 2009 it was announced that Giselle was pregnant and she delivered a baby boy on December 8th, 2009 which they subsequently named Benjamin.
Giselle is involved in a number of humanitarian causes such as the “I am African” campaign and she also volunteered (free of charge) to put her face on the American Express Red Card which sends a percentage of its monies to Africa’s HIV/AIDS victims.
