Ashlee Simpson was born and was raised in Waco, Texas by her parents Joe and Tina Simpson alongside her older sister, Jessica Simpson.
Ashlee started dancing when she was just three years old and by the time she turned 11, she was the youngest person ever admitted to the School of American Ballet. After Jessica landed a record deal the family moved out to Los Angeles where Ashlee started getting work in commercials. She continued to dance on the road as one of Jessica’s back up dancers before finally spreading her own wings, exploring acting and landing a role on television series “Seventh Heaven”.
Her popularity soared when she starred in her own reality show for MTV, which documented the time during the making of and release of her debut album, Autobiography. The album hit #1 on the Billboard charts and went triple platinum. She went on to record 2 more successful albums and continued to dabble in acting.
In 2006 Ashlee showed off her moxie as a triple threat by displaying her singing, acting, and dancing skills when she performed to rave reviews in London’s West End production of “Chicago”.
On April 9, 2008, after a year of a dating, she became engaged to Fall Out Boy musician
. The couple married on May 17, 2008, with Ashlee’s dad officiating the wedding at their home. Shortly after, the couple announced they were expecting their first baby.
She practiced yoga during her pregnancy and said it was a great way to relax and focus on the baby. She shared on the Rachel Ray show that her dancing background kept her limber throughout her pregnancy: “I could do the splits when I was nine months pregnant. I could put my leg over my head still. I used to be a ballerina.”
Their son, Bronx Mowgli Wentz, was born on November 20, 2008. Ashlee gushed about motherhood: “Being a mom’s so empowering and incredible. I’m one of those people who believe that life brings things to you at a certain time for a certain reason, and if you just go with it, that’s where the best moments come from.”
She continues to dance, act and sing, but her new passion is being a mom to Bronx. After taking time off to focus on her son, she headed back to the stage in December 2009 to reprise her role as Roxie Hart on Broadway. She also shared recently that she’s working on material for her fourth album.
Ashlee and Pete filed for divorce in February, 2011.
