I’ll be hitting the beach in eight weeks, because my family and I are going on holiday to Portugal! This means two things: I need to buy a new bathing suit and I need to be brave enough to wear it. Really, it all comes down to choosing the right suit for my curvy shape. I’m starting with Tu at Sainsbury’s; the new swimwear collection is amazing, with ultra-flattering cuts, gorgeous tropical prints, and beautiful, bright colours. And, brilliantly, the suits are budget-friendly too.

How to find the right swimsuit for your shape, “issues” and all? Just follow our guide:

1. Belly paunch

Look for: A one-piece or a bikini with high-waisted bottoms. Suits labeled as having “tummy-control fabrics” are your friend; this material will help smooth out lumps and bumps. Love your boobs? Look for styles that accentuate your assets, with underwire (for a nice lift) or a plunging neckline; they’ll draw the eye away from your tummy.

2. Small on top

Look for: Swimwear with ruffles across the bust; this flirty style will help balance out your shape. If frills aren’t your thing, create the illusion of cleavage by choosing a suit with a padded top. Hey, hot mama!

3. Big on top

Look for: Bikini tops with underwire — you need proper support. Go for dark or bright colours. Avoid busy prints, which might make your chest look even bigger. Opt for substantial bottoms, like boy shorts or high-rise bottoms, rather than string bikini bottoms to balance out your boobs.

4. Stretch marks

Look for: A one-piece suit or a high-waisted bikini bottom, if your stretch marks are on your tummy. Bothered by stretch marks on your bottom or thighs? Try boy shorts, or cover up with a gorgeous kaftan. But here’s the thing: The only person who is really going to notice your stretch marks is you.

5. Big rear

Look for: Boy shorts for coverage that’s not too skimpy; you can even try board shorts and a bikini top if you fancy channeling surfer chic.

6. Curvy thighs

Look for: Vintage-cut swimsuits (ie. high-cut shorts and a halter top) will make your body look amazing. Va-va-voom!

Whatever you choose, walk with your shoulders back, swing your hips, and wear your swimsuit with confidence. You’ll look fabulous!
