7 Things Every Mom Needs in Winter

Good moisturizer

You’ll need a rich, nourishing daily moisturizer to keep you looking and feeling fresh-faced. I’m obsessed with Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream because it’s lightweight and not greasy, yet does the job of a heavy duty cream. Win! The daily age-defying moisturizer works on all skin types and delivers intense hydration. Try it.

Netflix recommendations

Think OITNB is the only thing to watch on the Internet network? No way! I’ve gotten into the Showtime series “Weeds” from start to finish. Nancy Botwin is a hard-working, resilient, sometimes questionable single mama who peddles weed to keep her family going. Her antics and cute Uncle Andy have kept me coming back for more. And since it’s on Netflix, I just keep hitting play.

A box of fun for the kids

Every winter I reload a medium-sized container with stickers, paint, puff balls, old socks, glitter glue, beads, and every other creative morsel I can think of. Why? Because when my son is going bonkers with boredom and the snow is STILL falling, I know I can rely on this box to stir up some imagination and fun. Get to your local craft and dollar store to stock up. Be sure to gather some odds and ends from around the house, too.

Cupcake and cookie mix (and all the fixings)

Kill me, but I’m just fine baking something from the box. On freezing cold days, it’s great to pull out a tube of refrigerated sugar cookie dough, or cake mix. After we stir and dollop and cook to perfection, decorating it is. Not only is this a great way to kill some time and get those tiny fine motor skills working, but the aroma will make your home smell sugary-sweet and, OK, your belly will thank you too.

Fuzzy socks

Seems silly, but I’m not a slipper person. I love, love, love cozy, soft, thick, and fuzzy socks to keep my feet warm on bitter cold days when I’m lounging around the house with my son and pup. These are my fav picks: Muk Luks Maryjane SocksSweater Socks by Free People, and these from Oldnavy.com They make awesome stocking stuffers, hint-hint.

A blanket-scarf

What is this you ask? Just the chicest way to stay warm on the couch, in the bleachers at the football game, or playing in the park with your kids. Wrap and secure it around your neck, drape it over your shoulders, and wear it like a cape, or cuddle up under it while watching a movie, still looking effortlessly cool. I like this one from UrbanOutfitters.com.

Candles

When it’s cold outside I just love to light up a few candles that smell warm and yummy. You know what I mean: Vanilla, cinnamon, and mmmm, nutty. Crisp candles like mint and pine also fair well with me when the snow is collecting on the windowsills. These are some of my fav scents: Eucalyptus Mint,  French Vanilla,  and Toasted Almond.
