Up until a couple weeks ago, I thought we might have skipped over sibling squabbles. Because we all know that long term relationships are totally established by the ages of three and six.
And yes, I’m being sarcastic because if there’s one thing I should know is to never think I know anything about raising children and never, ever become prideful over good behavior.
So, while my friends and acquaintances were bemoaning the pinching and hitting and name calling, I smiled in sympathy and internally patted myself on my back because my children were best friends forever. Then, came the tattling and the retribution and the fighting over a poor rolly poly who had the good sense to hide in a little ball.
While I’m befuddled by their behavior, the only punishment I seem to be able to devise is to make them sit together, back to back, in time out. They fume and pout and plot my demise in their heads. I can see it all on their faces. I’ve asked them why they’re so angry with each other right now. Their only response? Because.
So back to back they go and I search my head how to stop the fights and hope they don’t take after their mother and aunts who were known to launch into full scale battles. Of course, on the plus side, we’re all very close now.
Do you have any tips to halt these sibling battles?
