Demi Lovato Says She Had A Nervous Breakdown

Disney star Demi Lovato opens up about her stint in rehab and her new mission to help teens.

The “Sonny with a Chance” star shared a personal interview with the new issue of Seventeen magazine, explaining why she was admitted to rehab back in November.  “I basically had a nervous breakdown. I was really bad off. My parents and my manager pulled me aside and said, ‘You need to get some help.’ It was an intervention.”  She agreed to seek help: “I wanted freedom from the inner demons. I wanted to start my life over.”  Reportedly Demi also shares in the interview that she sought help for an eating disorder and body image issues.

Demi is teaming up with Seventeen magazine and the Jed Foundation for their “Love is Louder Than The Pressure to Be Perfect” campaign, which hopes to help teens with their own self-image struggles. As part of their partnership, Demi will write a column for Seventeen’s online edition.  “My fans have been such an incredible support system for me — I hope I can repay this and help other girls learn from my experiences. It’s very crucial that you get your feelings out, but don’t ever inflict harm on your own body because your body is so sacred. If you are going through that dark period, go to your family and closest friends. Don’t put yourself in danger. I wish I could tell every young girl with an eating disorder, or who has harmed herself in any way, that she’s worthy of life and that her life has meaning. You can overcome and get through anything.”

I give her a lot of credit for sharing something so private in an attempt to help other teens.
