How to Open and Peel a Pomegranate (with No Mess!)

Why should you feed your family pomegranates? Research reveals that the juice fights breast cancer may inhibit the development of lung cancer, and could prevent and slow Alzheimer’s disease. Pomegranate juice is also linked with potentially lowering LDL (bad cholesterol) and raising HDL (good cholesterol), and it has even been associated with lowering blood pressure!  Also, this gorgeous fruit is very rich in antioxidants! Pomegranates are only in season form September through January, so get them while they’re good!

Materials:

  • pomegranate
  • knife
  • bowl filled with water
  • strainer

Instructions:

Step 1: Submerge the pomegranate in the bowl filled with water. Make sure the pomegranate is fully submerged.

Step 2: Keeping it under water, cut the pomegranate in quarters.

Step 3: Keeping the pomegranate pieces under water, break them apart and start to peel away the kernels.

Step 4: Once all the kernels are free, pour the contents of the bowl into your strainer. Pick out the kernels and eat!
