Teens Can DIY Their Own 3-Ingredient Glitter Eyeshadow in Minutes

If there’s one concept that I swore by as a teen it was that there was NO such thing as too much glitter! If your makeup-loving teen is spending all of their money on makeup, now may be a great time for them to make their own glitter eyeshadow in minutes using a few household items. Best of all, you can create any color of glitter eyeshadow you want or even mix colors together for unique looks! Combining beauty-safe glitter, rubbing alcohol and glycerin, fill small containers or an empty eyeshadow palette with all the DIY glitter eyeshadow her heart desires.

Here’s how to make DIY glitter eyeshadow with only three ingredients!

Supplies:

  • Beauty-safe glitter
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Glycerin
  • Small makeup containers (or empty eyeshadow palette)
  • Toothpicks
  • Paper towel
  • Quarter (should be size of eyeshadow containers)

Glycerin (as well as glycerol) and rubbing alcohol are safe to use on eyelids. Of course, you won’t want it IN your eyes, but they will not cause harm unless the amount inside your eye is very substantial. Unless you have an allergy or extremely sensitive skin, the ingredients should not cause any side effects when put on your skin or eyelids. Just to be safe, have kids test out the eyeshadow on their arms before applying to eyelids. If any sensitivity occurs, do not use.

Step 1: Pour glitter into the containers until almost full.

Step 2: Add approximately equal parts alcohol and glycerin to the glitter and stir carefully with a toothpick. It’ll be a little lumpy or crumbly looking at first. Measurements do not need to be exact – just enough for the glitter to clump together.

Make sure you’re working in place where you don’t mind making a mess if the glitter spills out!

Step 3: Wrap the quarter inside of the paper towel and twist it tight. Use it to press the top of the glitter eyeshadow to compress it and soak up excess liquid.

Wipe away any excess glitter outside of the container and set it aside to dry overnight before applying. Follow the same steps to make a million more colors! Using just your fingers, it glides easily onto your skin! It’s perfect for dabbing on the corners of eyes for a fun little pop of glitter. Granted, your teens might go a little glitter crazy with their makeup, but they’ll have so much fun using it!
