The Frozen 2 Trailer is Finally Here, Whether You Like It or Not

In 2013, Disney turned the idea of “true love” on its head with the movie Frozen. “An act of true love with thaw a frozen heart” no longer meant that a prince had to kiss a princess to save her (a tired trope most of us are thrilled to see go away). Instead, the world watched in awe as two whip-smart and brave sisters learned how to trust each other and defend each other. So, of course, everyone has been waiting for YEARS for Frozen 2 and we now have the trailer to get us excited for the release date.

In the trailer, we see that Anna and Kristoff are still a couple (YAY!) and Olaf and Sven are still the adorable sidekicks (DOUBLE YAY!!). This time, Elsa, the Snow Queen, hears something calling to her in the distance – literally. There is an enchanted forest that appears to be under some kind of curse, which is threatening the safety of Arendelle. The gang goes off onto a new adventure in which they must confront magic once again, defend their homeland, and of course, make new friends along the way.

While we don’t yet know all of the fun details (and really, who wants a spoiler before the movie drops) we do know that there are quite a few interesting fan theories about what Frozen 2 might entail. For example, some have openly called for Elsa to get a girlfriend. Twitter was trending with the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend at one point, which got a response from Frozen writer and co-director Jennifer Lee who told the Huffington Post, “I always write from character-out, and where Elsa is and what Elsa’s doing in her life, she’s telling me every day. We’ll see where we go.”

Another fan theory is that the second chapter in the Frozen story will heavily feature the four seasons and some wonder if perhaps Frozen 2 will specifically deal with autumn, which fans hope will mean more movies are to come.

We all saw in Frozen 1 that Elsa and Anna’s parents died at sea, but PLOT TWIST! Some fans think that they are actually alive and we may bump into them in Frozen 2.

In another totally wild theory, Elsa and Anna’s parents were at sea long enough to give birth to a third child – a boy. But, they were shipwrecked, ended up on a jungle island, and they were then attacked by a leopard, killing the parents. Um, isn’t that the beginning of Tarzan? Yup. Some fans are touting a theory that Elsa and Anna have a long lost brother…Tarzan.

The theories go on and on and if you love this kind of thing, I assure you, you can lose a few fun hours getting deep in the weeds of fan theories. I for one cannot wait to see Frozen 2, which is scheduled to hit theatres in the US and the UK on November 22, just in time for Thanksgiving.
