15 New Disney Movies We Can’t Wait To Watch

The Lion King

Following up on his hit Jungle Book update, director Jon Favreau is remaking The Lion King with the latest CGI technology — meaning the jungle cats will probably be a lot scarier. There’s an all-star lineup of new voices, including Donald Glover as Simba, but the incomparable James Earl Jones will reprise his role as Mufasa. Release date: July 19, 2019

Nicole

Anna Kendrick plays the daughter of Santa Claus (Nicole = female St. Nick, get it?), who must take over his duties on the most important night of the year. Here’s hoping the Pitch Perfect star will favor us with a Christmas carol. Release date: November 8, 2019

Frozen 2

Is Elsa still using her powers for good? Are Anna and Kristoff still in love? Is Olaf’s carrot nose safe from Sven the reindeer? These burning (freezing?) questions and more will finally be answered. We can’t wait to love — and then get really sick of — the soundtrack. Release date: November 27, 2019

Mulan

Casting is still underway for the live-action remake of Mulan, about a Chinese girl who disguises herself as a warrior to save her father. But the director has promised a “big, girly martial arts epic,” so be prepared for your daughters to want taekwondo lessons. Release date: TBD in 2019

Gigantic

Here’s one new Disney movie that’s not a sequel or a remake. Gigantic is based on the Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale — and, get this — the 60-foot giant is actually an 11-year-old girl! Music will be scored by the team from Frozen, so the movie is bound to be, well, huge. Release date: November 25, 2020
