Green Meat: Plant-Based Steaks Go To Market

UK-based Tesco, the largest supermarket chain in Europe with over 400 stores, offers Vivera a sturdy springboard into the growing “green meat” marketplace. They won’t be the only purveyor for long, however. Beginning in June of 2018, Vivera’s Veggie Steaks will be sold at several large supermarket chains in the Netherlands. By the second half of 2018, Vivera will also offer this exciting new product in Germany, France and Italy.

Veggie Steaks are the end result of a long and diligent development process. Only plant-based ingredients such as wheat and soy are used, allowing vegetarians, vegans and flexitarians to enjoy Veggie Steaks – along with regular “carnivores”, by the way. “The smell, taste and bite can hardly be distinguished from real steak and we are convinced that this product will meet a large need of consumers,” explains Gert Jan Gombert of Vivera. “It is very important that we eat less meat, both for our own health, animal welfare and for our planet. Innovative and high-quality plant-based products can make a significant contribution here.”
