Hideaway: Tiny Green Home Makes The Un-Scene

Wall Power

The prototype home’s location in the northern hemisphere means the south-facing wall receives the most sunlight. As such, this wall wears a covering of spotted-pattern, thin-film PV (photo-voltaic) cells that generates all of the home’s electrical energy via solar power. Moreover, the compact size of the wall itself helps reduce the home’s exterior surface area, minimizing the rate of heat loss by night and heat gain by day.

Living Soul-O

Ultramodern as it may be, Disappear Retreat embodies certain features intended to soothe the human soul. Weathered wood interior paneling conspires to create a timeless sense of warmth, for example. Overhead, a clear glass roof allows natural light to enter during the day while facilitating incredible views of starry night skies after sundown.

Thrice Is Nice

Coulson has made a trio of Disappear Retreat models available for pre-order: the Basic, the Bed+Bath, and the Sauna. While the three models are identical on the outside, each offers different interior configurations conforming to their names. To elaborate, the Bed+Bath offers a universally-appealing, livable design that includes a built-in bed, full-featured bathroom, and a kitchen/cooking area. The Basic model provides a flexible open-plan that lends itself to personalization. Last but certainly not least, the Sauna model includes built-in wooden benches and a sauna system – quite a luxury for such a sustainable design!
