Recent advances in electric battery technology have made this type of all-in-one energy solution feasible. In the past, solar energy has been used to power home appliances and amenities during daylight hours. Homeowners who participate in the Nissan Energy Solar program, however, are able to collect and store excess energy collected by their rooftop solar panels in much-improved home storage batteries. The stored electricity can then be used after dark, or to recharge vehicles like the popular Nissan LEAF car and the e-NV200 van overnight and/or when the weather is overcast… an important issue in the infamously rainy British Isles!

“Solar panels have become the world’s fastest-growing source of new energy and we’re thrilled to launch Nissan Energy Solar in the UK,” states Francisco Carranza (above), Managing Director of Nissan Energy at Nissan Europe. While other companies – notably Tesla in the USA – have worked to integrate homes, vehicles and storage batteries in a complementary manner, Nissan has hit the ground running due their global reach and ongoing success with mass-produced electric and hybrid vehicles.

“Over 880,000 UK homes already have solar panels installed and they are seeing the benefits every day, from decreasing electricity bills to increasing property values,” adds Carranza. “Nissan Energy Solar is just one step in supporting our commitment to investing in innovative energy solutions for a more sustainable future and intelligent way of living.”
