Sandra Bullock was born to opera singer Helga D. Meyer and voice coach John W. Bullock. They, along with Sandra’s sister Gesine, spent the first twelve years of Sandra’s life living in Germany before the family settled in the Virginia area. Sandra attended Washington-Lee High School and her fellow students already recognized back then what a ray of sunshine she was by voting her “Most Likely to Brighten Up Your Day”. She was your all-American girl in high school, cheerleading and dating a football player.
Sandra enrolled in East Carolina University, but left just 3 credits shy of graduating to move to Manhattan to pursue acting.
She landed several stage and television jobs before getting a few smaller movie roles. Her big breakthrough would come in 1994 with the movie “Speed”.
Throughout the next 15 years, she would star in a string of hit movies: “While You Were Sleeping”, “Miss Congeniality”, “Two Weeks Notice”, “The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood”, “28 Days”, and the Oscar-winning film “Crash”.
In July of 2005, she married “West Coast Choppers” star Jesse James and became stepmom to his three children. The two met when Sandra arranged for her 10-year-old godson to visit the set of Jesse’s show “Monster Garage”.
Sandra’s greatest professional accolades came in 2010 after her amazing performances in the 2009 films “The Blind Side” and “The Proposal”. She won an Oscar, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Golden Globe, along with many others. Ever the class act, she also showed up to the Razzie Awards to accept her win for Worst Actress and Worst Couple for her film “All about Steve”. Most nominees don’t actually show up to the Razzie awards ceremonies, but Sandra did and even toted a wagon-load of the movie’s DVD’s behind her on the stage and jokingly threatened to read the entire script during her acceptance speech.
As the awards season was winding down, Sandra filed for divorce from Jesse and shocked her fans and the media by announcing that she’d been keeping a big secret – she had adopted an infant son from New Orleans, Louis Bardo Bullock, in January of 2010. She kept things quiet because she wanted to wait until after the Academy Awards ceremony, so as not to take the spotlight away from the film.
After filing for divorce, Sandra moved to her Texas home to enjoy time with her son away from the glare of the media. Jesse and his three children also moved to Texas so that Sandra and the children could remain a part of each others’ lives.
Aside from acting, Sandra also runs a production company and a restaurant in Texas.
Sandra has long been a generous supporter of several humanitarian organizations such as the American Red Cross, which she donated $1 million to after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. She’s also supported relief efforts after the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunamis disaster and more recently she donated $1 million to help in Haiti.
