Amber Heard Welcomes First Child Via Surrogate

Congratulations are in order! Amber Heard is now a first-time mom.

The Aquaman star announced the birth of her first child by posting a photo of herself with the now 12-week-old newborn to her Instagram account on Thursday. According to sources for Page Six, the child was born via surrogate, after Heard was told by doctors she could become pregnant. “I’m so excited to share this news with you. Four years ago, I decided I wanted to have a child. I wanted to do it on my own terms,” she said. “I now appreciate how radical it is for us as women to think about one of the most fundamental parts of our destinies in this way. I hope we arrive at a point in which it’s normalized to not want a ring in order to have a crib.” She added, “A part of me wants to uphold that my private life is none of anyone’s business. I also get that the nature of my job compels me to take control of this. My daughter was born on April 8, 2021. Her name is Oonagh Paige Heard. She’s the beginning of the rest of my life.”

The actress was previously married to Johnny Depp from February 2015 to May 2016, and Heard considered her step-parenting role to the actor’s daughter, Lily-Rose, 22, and son, Jack, 19, the “greatest gift.” She is currently in a relationship with cinematographer Bianca Butti and the pair have been dating since January 2020 but according to Page Six, the actress made the decision to have a child on her own long before meeting her girlfriend and she is Oonagh’s sole legal parent.

Heard’s friends also told the publication that “Oonagh is absolutely gorgeous, and Amber is besotted.” They added, “she always knew that she wanted to be a mom, and this is her greatest wish come true. She’s so grateful to the wonderful woman who helped bring Oonagh into her life.”

The sources also added that Amber Heard wants to be open about her daughter’s birth in order to help others who may be navigating fertility struggles. “There are so many women who feel they can’t talk about their fertility and are worried and embarrassed; Amber wants them to feel supported and realize that there are a multitude of ways to have a baby even if you have fertility issues.”

Congrats to the new mother and her beautiful baby girl!
