Way Too Short Shorts

Apparently, according to Old Navy, Gap, Wal Mart, and Target, my daughter.

It’s summer, which means it’s time for me to struggle to find shorts and skirts that cover my little girl’s tushy. Whereas Joseph’s shorts usually hit just below the knee, I’m lucky to find girl shorts that have more than a two inch inseam.

Which is not okay in my book.

Call me crazy, but I like my almost-three-year-old’s shorts to be a bit longer than a diaper cover. And when she’s wearing a dress? I’d like it to cover her bum when she reaches to put something on the counter. I don’t know. Is that asking too much?

According to most major department stores it is.

Which is why I dread shorts shopping.

It never fails. The shorts Elizabeth wants – the pretty floral or be-ribboned pair – are, in a word, too short.

Yes. That’s two words. Work with me here.

And the shorts I want her to get – touching her knees or an inch above them – are too plain and not “girly” enough for my little diva. Thus begins the tug of war that almost always ends in a skort.

I wish I had some hope for future summer wardrobes, but a quick browse through the girls and tween sections shows I have booty shorts and animal prints to look forward to

Maybe I’ll get lucky. Maybe gunny sack dresses will come back in style.
