When it comes to their birthday parties, my boys (ages nine and eleven) think nothing could possibly be better than a banana split bar. Nothing! And can you blame them? All of their favorite creamy, crunchy, and fresh sweet ingredients are spread out in pretty bowls, ready to be poured or spooned over bananas and ice cream!

This is a super fun summer birthday dessert idea. Kids and adults alike love to build their banana split, as they can choose all of their favorite things. There’s something for everyone, and the banana split birthday party is therefore a huge crowd-pleaser!

The ingredients listed below are merely suggestions—you can of course choose your own favorites.

Step 1: Choose an area inside or outside where you want to set up your bar. I suggest using a tablecloth---with so many kids serving themselves, this could be a messy situation.

Step 2: Add the sauces to two small pitchers and warm them right before serving.

Step 3: Add the berries, pecans, coconut, and whipped cream to serving bowls with spoons.

Step 4: Peel the bananas and slice them in half lengthwise and then in half horizontally. Add them to another pretty bowl and drizzle them with lemon juice.

Step 7: It's a great idea to have someone add the bananas to the serving bowl, along with the ice cream(s) the guest chooses—then, they can do the rest!
