Celebrity Dad Matt Bomer Thought “Magic Mike” Producers Meant To Call “Vampire Diaries” Star

Matt Bomer talks getting in shape for “Magic Mike”, equal rights, and not hiding the fact that he was gay.

Matt stars in the upcoming male stripper film “Magic Mike”, which is loosely based on actor Channing Tatum’s stint as a male dancer. Matt shared that he thought there was some sort of a mix-up when they contacted him about a part in the movie: “When they called me, I thought, ‘Do they have the wrong number? Did they mean to call the guy from Vampire Diaries?’ And at the time I was really skinny so I think there may have been a five-minute window from when I hung up the phone to when I went to the gym.”

Matt, the father of three sons with longtime partner Simon Halls, recently “confirmed” that he was gay, but says he never tried to “hide” that fact in any way. “I never really endeavored to hide anything. But there were times I chose not to relegate my history to the back page of a magazine, which to me is sort of akin to putting your biography on a bathroom wall. What we really have to do is stop the adjective before the job title — whether it’s ‘black actor,’ a ‘gay actor’ or ‘anything actor. Everybody thinks that equality comes from identifying people, and that’s not where equality comes from. Equality comes from treating everybody the same regardless of who they are. I hope the media and the press catches on to that because it’s time to move out of 1992.”

He says some day his kids will be able to see the movie, but not for a long time. He joked: “One day when they are old enough, they can watch it. I’ll be able to say, ‘Hey, your old man used to be in shape. He might not be anymore, but he used to be in shape. Now, go get me a beer.'”

The movie hits theaters this Friday.

Do you think they should’ve cast Ian Somerhalder, too? There are definite similarities and I’m sure none of us would have complained about one more hot guy added to the “Magic Mike” cast, right? They could’ve cast nearly the entire male lineup on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ for this movie and a lot of fans would’ve been very happy campers.
