Weekend Movie Release Roundup: In Theaters & On DVD Christmas Week 2011

Christmas is overflowing with new flicks! The movie theaters and the video stores are loaded with new movies this week!

New in theaters this week:

1. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (opens 12/20) (R)

Starring Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig

Based on the best-selling novel! Journalist Mikael Blomkvist is aided in his search for a woman who has been missing for forty years by Lisbeth Salander, a young computer hacker.

2. We Bought a Zoo (opens 12/23) (PG)

Starring Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Colin Ford, Thomas Hayden Church, and Maggie Elizabeth Jones

A funny, inspiring and true story about the magical power of family to persevere in the face of extraordinary challenges. Damon portrays a single dad who, looking to give his family a much-needed fresh start, moves to a home situated in the middle of a zoo, which he and his two children will attempt to bring back to its once glorious state. The film weaves together warmth, laughter and a spirit of optimism that is perfect for the holiday season.

3. In the Land of Blood and Honey (opens 12/23 in L.A. & NY) (R)

Starring Zana Marjanovic, Goran Kostic and Rade Serbedzija (directed by Angelina Jolie)

During the Bosnian War, Danijel, a soldier fighting for the Serbs, re-encounters Ajla, a Bosnian who’s now a captive in his camp he oversees. Their once promising connection has become ambiguous as their motives have changed.

4. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (opens 12/21) (PG-13)

Starring Tom Cruise, Paula Patton, Simon Pegg, and Jeremy Renner

The IMF is shut down when it’s implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, causing Ethan Hunt and his new team to go rogue to clear their organization’s name.

5. The Adventures of Tintin (opens 12/21) (PG)

Starring the voices of Daniel Craig, Simon Pegg, and more

Tintin and Captain Haddock set off on a treasure hunt for a sunken ship commanded by Haddock’s ancestor. But someone else is in search of the ship.

1. Dolphin Tale (PG)

Starring Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, and Harry Connick Jr.

A story centered on the friendship between a boy and a dolphin whose tail was lost in a crab trap.

2. Midnight in Paris (PG-13)

Starring Owen Wilson, Kathy Bates, and Rachel McAdams

A romantic comedy about a family traveling to the French capital for business. The party includes a young engaged couple forced to confront the illusion that a life different from their own is better.

3. Straw Dogs (R)

A screenwriter and his wife relocate to her hometown in the South. While tensions build between them, a brewing conflict with locals becomes a threat to them both.
