The First Years American Red Cross Safety Locks Recall Dec. 07, 2010

The First Years has reported they are voluntarily recalling an estimated 41,300 cabinet Swing Locks.

What does this mean for you?

The installed latches can break allowing children access to cabinets where hazardous items are kept. The company has received several reports of the latches breaking.  

The recall is for The First Years American Red Cross cabinet swing locks item number Y7181. An American Red Cross logo and “cabinet swing lock” is printed on the package and American Red Cross is molded onto the front of the lock.

What should you do if you have The First Years American Red Cross Safety Locks?

1. The item number being recalled is Y7181 and was sold at Toys R Us, Babies R Us and other retail stores nationwide as well as on the internet from September 2008 to September 2010. They cost about $4 per pair.

2. If you believe you have one or more of the affected latches immediately remove the latches and use a different method to store hazardous items out of reach of children.

3. Record the date code on the latch and contact The First Years to receive a $5 coupon.
