5 Superfoods That Can Help Give You a Youthful Glow

Nutricosmetic_sizedHey mamas! If you’re like me, you’ll do anything and everything to keep yourself looking youthful and healthy. But here’s the deal: I’m not one to spend big bucks on miracle creams and treatments — or, ack! plastic surgery. That’s why I was thrilled to receive these tasty tips from Nutricosmetic expert and beauty nutritionist, Paula Simpson. She dished about superfoods that make you feel and look young, while nourishing your body from the inside out. They are so healthy for your little ones, too! Here’s what I learned and how I incorporate these yummy foods into my daily diet:

1. Avocado: “This delicious vegetable is full of antioxidants that will help rejuvenate your skin to give it a youthful complexion,” says Simpson.

My diet do: Who doesn’t love guacamole? And if you don’t fancy the creamy spread, dice a few cubes up for your salad or add some slices to a turkey wrap!

2. Kidney Beans: Simpson dishes: “These beans are packed with protein which can be important while working out to keep that young figure.”

My diet do: We do taco Tuesday in my home every week. Now, in addition to black beans, I pop some kidney beans into the rice-and-beans mix. My son, Jack, gets a kick out of eating KID-ney beans. “There’s beans especially for kids!” I tell him.

3. Dark Chocolate: “Chocolate that contains at least 70% cocoa is good for your skin and hair. AND It also helps burn fat.”

My diet do: I don’t have a big sweet tooth, but every now and then I do get the itch. That’s why I keep a few bars of bitter dark chocolate in the freezer (I love it icy cold!) I’ll nibble on a piece in bed watching cheesy reality TV.

4. Broccoli: “Packed with vitamin C and fiber, this vegetable helps with weight control and fighting off heart disease.”

My diet do: My son and I love brocc. We could eat it everyday, all day. Pop it on pizza, steam and serve with chicken, dress up a baked potato with brocc and cheese and sour cream, add some crunch to a salad, or have a few trees with dip for a filling snack.

5. Blueberries: “They contain certain minerals, which help control the anti-aging process. Due to the high amounts of Potassium, they will also help with puffiness.”

My diet do: I’ve been known to mash up blueberries and spread ’em all over my face. I also love making fruit-infused water (tip: mash and muddle the berries before adding them to a pitcher of ice water). Toss them in salad, cereal or oatmeal or enjoy the berries plain Jane — little blues are the best!

I feel more beautiful already! Do you?
