Tzatziki Sauce

3 Homemade Chicken Strip Sauces My Kids Love

Winter after the New Year is always tough. The weather is dull, school drones on, and the meals all begin to look the same. Since my kids are big chicken eaters I’ve been having fun trying to change up their everyday eating routine. That is, I am not introducing wild, exotic new foods; I am just tweaking the ones they already love. Take Tyson® Crispy Chicken Strips, for example. I’ve been tossing them with new sauces to give them a fresh taste and texture. The kids have been thrilled, and so have I! Here are the sauces we’ve been loving; they’re our favorite new ways to eat chicken strips.

Quick Sweet & Sour Sauce

Sweet & Sour Sauce

Chinese take-out is always a hit in our house. But it is so easy to make at home! Here is our quick sweet and sour sauce. My kids like to use it as a dip, but you can always toss and coat the strips if you prefer!

Ingredients:

  • packed light brown sugar: ¼ cup
  • cornstarch: 1 tablespoon
  • pineapple juice: 6 ounces
  • white vinegar: ¼ cup
  • soy sauce: 1 tablespoon
  • paprika: 1 teaspoon
  • green bell pepper: ¼, finely chopped

Instructions:

Place the sugar, cornstarch, and juice in a small saucepan and warm over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and add ¼ cup of water. Stir in the vinegar and soy sauce. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Greek-ish Tzatziki Sauce

Tzatziki Sauce

This cool cucumber yogurt sauce is healthy and refreshing. We’ve been drizzling it on top of the chicken strips and then serving the strips over salad!

Ingredients:

  • plain Greek yogurt: 1 cup
  • cucumber seeded: 1, large, peeled and finely grated
  • garlic cloves: 2, finely chopped
  • zest and juice of 1 lemon
  • chopped fresh dill: 2 tablespoons
  • salt and pepper: to taste

Instructions:

Stir together all of the ingredients in a large bowl and serve!

Garlic-Parmesan Sauce

Garlic Cheese Sauce

Mmmm, a little Italian flair goes a long way with chicken strips. We toss the strips with this sauce, and then have a little warm marinara for dipping on the side!

Ingredients:

  • unsalted butter: 2 tablespoons
  • garlic clove: 1, finely chopped
  • unbleached all-purpose flour: 2 tablespoons
  • Parmesan cheese: ½ cup, finely grated
  • low-sodium chicken broth: 1 cup
  • cheddar cheese: ½ cup, coarsely grated
  • light cream: 2 tablespoons
  • salt and pepper: to taste

Instructions:

In a small saucepan add the butter and warm over medium heat. Stir in the garlic clove and allow to simmer for 1 minute. Then whisk in the flour and allow it to cook for 1 minute. Then, whisk in the Parmesan, chicken broth, cheddar cheese, cream, and salt + pepper. Stir well for 5 minutes, or until thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon.
