    Ingredients:

    • fresh strawberries: 1 pound
    • ripe and fragrant mango: 1 mango

    Directions:

Step 1: Wash the strawberries and remove the tops then slice in half.

Step 2: Cut the mango lengthwise, along the side of the mango pit. You will be cutting off the flesh from one side then repeating the same process on the other side. Now cut the ends off the mango pit. Cut the remaining flesh from the pit. Using a small sharp knife, peel the skin from the flesh. You can make long cuts to create slices or cut a cube pattern then simply turn the skin inside out and slice the pieces away. Or if you want to try another fun method for learning how to cut a mango, check out our How to Cut a Mango instructions.

As you can see, for this recipe, I cut large slices of mango instead of cubes.

Step 3: Once the fruits are prepared, toss them into a food processor and chop until you have a chunky texture. Now you can create a dish suitable for your current whim. Here is what the pureed version looks like:

For baby - Mango Strawberry Puree: Puree the fruits together until smooth (8 months+)

For self-feeders - Sunrise Slaw: Chop then fork mash if needed - add yogurt (8 months+)

For the big kids - Mango Strawberry Salsa: Chop together then add 2 tablespoon lime or lemon juice, 1 small diced Vidalia onion, 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro or mint.

    Additional Note:

Strawberries are a potentially high allergen food. Waiting to introduce them until 12 months of age is a common recommendation, however recommendations for introducing allergenic foods are changing. Many parents do introduce fresh strawberries to their little ones prior to 12 months of age, some as young as 6 months of age. If your family has a history of allergies, you may want to wait on introducing strawberries. Ask your pediatrician about introducing strawberries just to be sure!
