Kristen Bell Was Worried About Bonding With Her Unborn Baby

Actress Kristen Bell welcomed her daughter Lincoln back in late March. The Veronica Mars star chats with Flare magazine for their latest issue, revealing everything from how her birth plan didn’t go as she had hoped, why she fretted over bonding with her daughter and why she and husband Dax Shepard are keeping Lincoln away from the paparazzi.

Kristen shares her fears of not bonding with her daughter, “I kept saying to Dax in all sincerity during my pregnancy, ‘I just don’t know how I’m going to like her as much as I like the dogs. I was being serious. Because I f*king love my dogs; they are my children. I love people the more i know them, and I didn’t know her. It could’ve been a water bottle in my belly, that’s about how connected I felt to her during my pregnancy. But within about 24 hours after she came out, my hormones reset, and they reprogrammed my feelings about her.”

Her birth plan went out the window the day of delivery, “I found it very important when making my birth plan to research both sides of the argument. I tend to lean toward a more crunchy-granola, organic-type lifestyle, so I thought, I’ll bring the yoga ball, I’ll have a playlist. And we got there, and none of it applied.”

On protecting Lincoln from the prying eyes of the public, “Dax and I realize it might make someone smile when we have sassy Twitter fights, or when I tweet something that he says to me. I’m fully aware that it’s a tiny taste of our relationship. But the real day-to-day, we are extremely territorial of. I would really not like to see the aftermath of the first person who tries to take a picture of Lincoln. There are going to be a lot of stitches.”

Kristen and Dax are both from Detroit, but she says they never would’ve known in each other in high school, “Dax and I would not have been friends in high school. He was a drug addict and he was wild, and i was very much a good girl who went to Catholic school. He is also five years older than I am, and he lived in Milford, which is a bit more drive-your-tractor-to-the-7-eleven-type Michigan, and I was closer to downtown Detroit.”
