DIY: Onesie Dress

This project takes about 30 minutes, giving you plenty of time to whip up a batch for the new baby.  Makes a great gift too!

MATERIALS

  • Onesie, any size, any color
  • 1/4 yard knit fabric
  • Sewing machine and supplies

INSTRUCTIONS

Start by measuring the onesie at the waist area and multiply that number by 4.  My final cut was 28″ wide for this one.  For the length, just use your judgment.  I made mine 8.5″ long to fall about 2″ beyond the snaps

Here is my 28″ x8.5″ piece folded over right side together.  Sew along the short side to close up and make a tube

Run a basting stitch along the top 1/4″ of the skirt  and pull the bobbin threads to gather the top

Slip the skirt over the onesie and bring it to waist or below-waist level, whichever you prefer

Pin it all around, making sure it stays straight.  Using the gathering stitch as a guide, stitch the skirt to the onesie

Have fun making more!
