DIY: Hanging Dishtowel

Not only are they useful, but they can match the decor of your recipient by choosing your own fabric!

MATERIALS (for 2 hanging towels)

  • 1 Kitchen Towel
  • 1/2 yard fabric
  • Dishtowel Template (click HERE for free template)
  • 2 buttons
  • 2″ sew in velcro
  • 1.5″ grosgrain ribbon (optional)
  • Sewing machine and supplies

INSTRUCTIONS

Cut the dish towel right down the middle

Print the template out and place it on your fabric double thickness, RST

Cut two

Sew 1/4″ seam around the sides and up the top.  Do not sew the bottom closed!  Clip curves and trim top to reduce bulk

Turn the top inside out and press.  Turn the bottom in about 1/2″ and press to hide the raw edge

Take your cut towel and add the ribbon to the bottom (optional)

Fold the towel so that the full width is about 6″.  This is a picture of the back.  Baste at the top 1/4″

Slip the top of the towel in to the bottom of the fabric and pin closed.  The towel should be inside the fabric a few inches.  Sew a line close to the edge of the fabric.  Sew another one 1/4″ away in to the fabric to create a double stitch

 Attach your velcro as positioned

Attach your button.  I use my zig zag setting on my machine to attach them easily
