DIY: Shoe Tie

This tutorial is for a neck tie shoe clip. What a refined addition to any pair of flats on Valentine’s Day!

Oh look, it’s a neck tie but something’s amiss,

It must have fallen on the toes of Miss Priss,

Perfectly poised and quite debonair,

She’s set for her Valentine party affair.

Supplies:

  • Scissors
  • 10”x10” cut of white cotton fabric (this is more than enough)
  • Hot glue and gun
  • 2 small paper clips
  • Iron
  • Water or starch (optional)

SHOE TIE

Create a tie shape pattern out of paper that will fit your shoe. Place the pattern on a piece of fabric and trace generously, leaving room for folding the edges under. Cut out the shape from the fabric and make a small slit for folding, as in box 4.

SHOE TIE

Dampen the fabric with water (or starch), fold over the edges, and iron flat.

SHOE TIE

Fold the top over and iron flat.

SHOE TIE

To make the top portion of the tie, cut another piece of fabric 1.5” wide by 3” long. Dampen the fabric, fold the edges under lengthwise, and iron flat.

Fold 2/3 lengthwise (almost in half), dampen, and iron flat. It should look something like boxes 15 and 16.

SHOE TIE

Fold each end of the top fabric around the top end of the bottom tie portion at a 45 degree angle. Dampen and iron flat.

SHOE TIE

Open the top tie portion, fold the ends under, hot glue, and cut the excess fabric. Do this for both ends.

SHOE TIE

Use hot glue to attach the bottom tie portion to the back of the top tie portion. Fold in the ends of the top tie portion and hot glue. Use hot glue to attach a small paper clip onto the underside of the tie.

SHOE TIE

Just clip onto your shoes and you are set for your Valentine’s Day party!
